About PassMark Driving School Driving School

Meet Mark – Your Local Driving Instructor

Patient, professional and focused on helping you become a safe driver

Hello, I’m Mark, the owner and driving instructor behind PassMark Driving School.

I provide professional manual driving lessons across Stirling, Alloa, Dunblane, Tillicoultry and the surrounding FK7–FK15 areas.

Learning to drive can feel intimidating, particularly if you have never driven before, struggle with confidence or have had a poor experience with another instructor. My job is to make each lesson calm, structured and easy to understand.

You will never be made to feel stupid for asking a question. There is no shouting, sarcasm or pressure to progress faster than you are ready for.

Fully Qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor

I am a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

This means I have completed the required qualification process and must continue to meet the DVSA’s professional and instructional standards.

Every lesson is delivered professionally in a modern dual-controlled car. My aim is not simply to get you through a driving test—it is to help you develop the awareness, judgement and confidence needed to drive safely without an instructor beside you.

Experience That Adapts to the Pupil

I have worked with learners of different ages, abilities and confidence levels, including:

  • Complete beginners who have never sat in the driver’s seat
  • Nervous and anxious learners
  • Pupils returning after a long break
  • Learners who have changed instructors
  • Pupils preparing for the Stirling driving test
  • Full licence holders needing refresher or motorway training
  • Drivers completing Pass Plus after passing their test

There is no one-size-fits-all method. Some pupils learn best through demonstration, others through diagrams, questions, practice or talking through a situation.

I adapt the lesson to how you learn—not how an instructor’s script says you should learn.

A Calm, Client-Centred Teaching Style

Your lessons will be built around your needs, previous experience and goals.

At the beginning of each lesson, we will agree on what you want to work on. During the lesson, I will adjust the amount of support you receive as your confidence and ability improve.

You will be encouraged to think through situations, assess risks and make your own decisions. I will not spend the entire lesson giving constant instructions that leave you unable to drive independently.

Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities. We will identify what happened, understand why it happened and agree on what you can do differently next time.

The goal is steady, genuine progress—not rushing you toward a driving test before you are ready.

Learn in a Modern Manual Audi A3

Lessons are conducted in a modern petrol Audi A3 Sport with a six-speed manual gearbox and professional dual controls.

The Audi provides a comfortable driving position, clear visibility and responsive controls, making it suitable for new learners as well as more experienced pupils preparing for their test.

During your lessons, you will become confident using:

  • Clutch control and smooth gear changes
  • The electronic parking brake
  • Vehicle safety and driver-assistance features
  • Mirrors, controls and dashboard information
  • Parking and manoeuvring aids
  • The vehicle checks used for “show me, tell me” questions

The car is maintained to a high standard and provides a safe, professional environment in which to learn.

How Your Lessons Are Structured

PassMark offers 1.5-hour and two-hour manual driving lessons.

Every lesson normally includes:

1. Review and Goal Setting

We will briefly review your previous lesson, discuss any private practice and agree on a realistic goal for the session.

2. Explanation or Demonstration

New skills will be explained clearly before you are expected to perform them. Where helpful, I can demonstrate the skill or use diagrams and questions to make sure you understand it.

3. Focused Driving Practice

Most of the lesson is spent driving and developing the agreed skill in suitable road and traffic conditions.

As you improve, I will gradually reduce my support and encourage you to make more decisions independently.

4. Reflection and Feedback

At the end of the lesson, you will be encouraged to assess your own performance before I provide additional feedback.

We will agree on what went well, what still needs work and the focus for your next lesson.

Pupils also receive access to TestBuddy resources covering theory-test preparation, road signs, the Highway Code and additional driving guidance.

Why Two-Hour Lessons Are Recommended

Although 1.5-hour lessons are available, two-hour lessons usually provide better value and more productive driving time.

A longer lesson gives us time to travel beyond your immediate pickup area, practise in a wider range of road and traffic conditions and repeat new skills without rushing.

It is particularly useful for developing experience around Stirling, rural roads, dual carriageways, complex roundabouts and routes near the driving test centre.

Two-hour lessons cost £85 and 1.5-hour lessons cost £65.

Local Knowledge of Stirling and the Surrounding Area

Local knowledge is not about memorising supposed test routes. It is about making sure you can deal safely with any road or situation the examiner may choose.

Lessons can include experience around:

  • Stirling city centre and its one-way systems
  • Springkerse and the roads surrounding Stirling Test Centre
  • Riverside and Causewayhead
  • Bannockburn and St Ninians
  • Busy multi-lane roundabouts
  • Rural roads around Clackmannanshire and Dunblane
  • Dual carriageways and motorway junctions
  • Residential areas with parked vehicles and restricted visibility

You will experience different roads, traffic levels and weather conditions so that you are prepared to drive independently—not merely repeat familiar journeys.
